We traveled to Puerto Rico in February for a much needed week long vacation. We chose Puerto Rico, because we also wanted a cultural experience, and not just the all-inclusive experience (there’s nothing wrong with that sometimes though!). We stayed at the Andalucia Guest house in San Juan in the Ocean Park residential neighborhood. This was another attempt at a cultural experience, avoiding the traditional high-rise hotel in a touristy part of the city. The Andalucia Guest house was amazing- small and quaint, within walking distance to multi-million dollar homes, the best beach in San Juan, lots of local restaurants, and European bakeries and cafes. I highly recommend it!
We also rented a car and took a drive to visit Old San Juan, the rain forest El Yunque, and Luqillo Beach at the foot of the mountainous rain forest. It was beautiful! Puerto Rico is so small, everything is really a day trip away from San Juan.
Included below are my photos from the trip. Among them I have included photos of the Andalucia Guest house, El Yunque, Luqillo Beach, Old San Juan, Ocean Park Beach, and the million dollar homes in the exclusive Ocean Park gated community. Among these homes, I noticed and photographed many of the gates, barbed wire, iron barred windows and doors, and walls guarding these homes. Just something I was not used to seeing, and found interesting.
